What is VRCS?

Venango Region Catholic School (VRCS) is an association formed by the Diocese of Erie, St. Joeseph Parish (formerly St. Stephen Parish) and St. Patrick Parish.  The association operates a preschool-through 8th grade elementary school on the St. Stephen School Campus on Reed Street in Oil City, PA.

We believe in educating the whole child.

Students at St. Stephen School receive instruction in a number of content areas in order to prepare their minds to be critical thinkers, as well as prepare their hearts to make moral choices and lives lives of integrity.

  • Academics (mathematics, science, English Language Arts, history) curriculum is based on current PA State and local standards.  Teachers are certified and receive professional development in research and evidence based best practices.  
  • Students experience music, technology, art and physical education weekly, as well as opportunities for sports and extra-circulars.
  • Religion is taught daily as an academic subject.  In all grade levels, students are exposed to Scripture and the Traditions of the Catholic Church, as well as provided opportunity for prayer.  Our hope is to aid in their formation as disciples of Christ.

Mission Statement for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Erie
The Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Erie, in collaboration with family, parish, and community, educate our youth to be well-informed citizens with critical thinking skills that will prepare them to live virtuous lives. In faithfulness to the teachings of Christ and his church, students will be invited to know, love and serve God in order to evangelize in a global society.
